There are no words to describe the senseless tragedy that took place at Sandy Hook School on December 14, 2012. As a parent myself, I grieve for those who lost a child in this horrible act of violence. I echo President Obama's words, "Our hearts are broken."

The safety of students and staff has always been the main priority of St. Louis Public Schools. The Sandy Hook School shootings are a reminder to all of us to remain vigilant in our efforts to follow the safety procedures in our schools. I have reminded all school staff to keep all exterior doors locked and to require all visitors to enter and exit through the main entrance. All visitors must also sign in at the school office. Staff members have also been reminded to be aware at all times of who is in and around the school building.

I encourage the SLPS community to join us in our efforts to keep our schools safe. Please report any suspicious behavior to our Safety and Security emergency phone line (314) 865-2020.

Thank you for your efforts in making our schools a safe, educational environment. Please join me in praying for everyone at Sandy Hook Elementary and the community of Newtown, Connecticut.
    Sincerely,
    Kelvin R. Adams, Ph.D.
    Superintendent
